Stewardship

How do home and place intertwine?

Groundwater Gardens works at the intersection of gardens and wild spaces. We believe in the capacity for people to make land more abundant by living deeply connected to the natural world, and model our work on the interconnectedness found everywhere in nature. Our designs are grounded in California native plants, edible landscaping, and water sequestration;  our goal is to integrate people's lives and homes with the natural systems that sustain all life.

Peter Cameron is the founder and landscape designer of GG. He has worked on farms and gardens ranging from Colombia to Washington. While managing the gardens of a retreat center in Ojai, he participated in Walking Water, a pilgrimage examining LA's problematic water story. This project and its dream that society can live in harmony with the natural world inspired him to found Habitat Gardens LA in 2018 , which has since grown to include the watersheds of his homeland in the Bay Area as Groundwater Gardens.
